Movie Review: Me, Earl and the Dying Girl (’15 Alfonso Gomez-Rejon)

For a film adapatation, this is undeniably solid. From the script that was written pretty good, the performances of the main leads were spectacular and the way the film was crafted is quite compelling, “Me, Earl and the Dying Girl” is something I never expect to deliver but it did. Thomas Mann character seems to be tailormade for him. His performance was slick and nuanced. Olivia Cooke and R.J Cyler provided a fantastic support with their layered performance allowing the whole movie to be more balanced. It was to be honest an affectionate film but it wasn’t overly dramatic nor cheesy, it was quirky but sincere. It felt more personal yet not crossing a line. The film was successful in ways you won’t expect but it was what was expected from it, if that makes any sense. Nonetheless, I must say that I enjoyed this film. Great job! 8
