Movie Review: Allegiant (’16 Robert Schwentke)

Starring: Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Zoe Kravitz, Naomi Watts, Jeff Daniels..
Director: Robert Schwentky
Genre/s: Science & Fiction, Adaptation

If you have a talented young cast in Shailene Woodley, Miles Teller and Ansel Elgort, backed up with fantastic supporting cast in Jeff Daniels, Naomi Watts and Octavia Spencer – not to mention, eye candy Theo James as one of the leads – you will think that this is a recipe of a well crafted film. More so, an adaptation which is now on its third installment. The Divergent Series started strong as the first film showed promise and the second installment didn’t really disappoint too. But Allegiant, the third part is a different story. It was a disappointment to say the least. The film felt like it didn’t have any growth. The script is underwhelming. The action sequences were dull. The phasing is dragging. Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller’s great knack on acting is not well utilized and the whole film was just a big blah! Allegiant is that kind of film like you’ve seen before and the one you’re seeing didn’t really add anything to what you’ve witnessed. 4
