The Voice 9: 20 Best Performances (Wrap-Up)

It’s the culmination of the 9th season The Voice and yes it was that fast! This show needed some season break interval at some point but I guess the ratings and impact is still giving the producers and the network so much money, a break is nowhere near the future.

Anyway, season 9 has been spoiled since the blind audition of eventual winner Jordan Smith. Not that he is bad singer nor a terrible kid, but the obvious pimping from the coaches backed up with a great story line and edit is just the perfect recipe for his crown. Not to mention, he was an itunes jaggernaut seller!

But even if the season became lame and predictable, I must say there are really incredible performances that define this season of The Voice.

So with no further adieu, here are my subjective list of which I think were the 20 Best Performances of The Voice 9.

20. STYLE
Ivonne Acero
Blind Auditions

– From her tone alone, I fell in love with Ivonne from the moment she opened her mouth. It was rich, interesting and there’s a good quirk on it that is recognizable without being too polarizing. Was it a perfect audition? No. But it was memorable enough to stand out.

19. JEALOUS
Jeffery Austin
Top 10

– On my ears, Jeffery is the real stand out of the season. Save from his finale performances, he was the most consistent and probably a personal favorite of mine. His weakest of his best performances (his audition was good for honorable mention) on my list is his take on now popular Labyrinth’s hit, Jealous. His control is breathtaking. The dynamics he displayed is simply solid.

18. BRAND NEW GIRLFRIEND
Zach Seabaugh
Live Play-Offs

– Look, Zach isn’t the best vocalist on Team Blake but to my surprise everything work on him during this performance. The beginning was cool and then when the band kicks in, it was another level of energy and the hip grinding was just an added touch. He sounded good and there’s just an infinite charisma in his confidence on stage that was remarkable that night.

17. DANCING ON MY OWN
Jeffery Austin
Top 11

Dancing on my own is yet another reality show favorite to cover this year and Jeffery took a risk in doing such not so popular track. Again he sounded really good on the track and there is beauty in his storytelling that created a magical momentum from a now dark horse artist of the competition.

16. PART OF ME
Ivonne Acero
Knockouts

– Ivonne was screwed over when someone else is choosing songs for her. She nailed it when she did Katy Perry’s Part of me because aside from she chose the song, all the beauty of her tone and the great control that she showed is quite lovely.

15. SHE’S GOT YOU
Emily Ann Roberts
Top 10

– Beautiful! Just a sublime performance and I am saying this as a person who isn’t a country fan. The way she navigated her verses were lovely and there is just gorgeousness in the totality of her delivery.

14. WE DON’T HAVE TO TAKE OUR CLOTHES OFF
Ellie Lawrence
Blind Auditions

– Ellie is probably one of the most memorable auditions of the season. It is not as pimped as that of Jordan or underrated like that of Jeffery but it was well recognized, well received and well performed.

13. TURNING TABLES
Jeffery Austin
Knockouts

– Sam Smith during the auditions then Adele on his knockouts? Jeffery is giving me happy chills! Rightfully he did cover an underrated Adele song and gave it justice. It was beautiful, understated and just lovely in all moments.

12. GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN
Madi Davis
Top 10

– At first I was afraid that Madi would crash and burn just like what happened to Joey Cook (AI14) this year with the same song but there is something interestingly solid in Madi’s cover. She just kept an iconic 80s song and make it sound current. Sure it was a bit too dark but I digress.

11. LIPS ARE MOVIN’
Lyndsey Elm
Blind Auditions

– Lyndsey’s audition is solid! I enjoyed every bit of it. From tye quirky arrangement that she infused with her style yet keeping it with the original. The tone of her voice is lovely. The arrangement was interesting and her phrasing is just lovely.

10. MAKE IT RAIN
Jeffery Austin
Instant Save

– Once he started opening his mouth, I knew he rightfully deserve to be saved and sent through the finale. It wasn’t as gritty as Matt McAndrew or a diva version like that of Koryn Hawthorne but it was simply soulful with a nice touch of ad libs and the liberties he took were breathtaking.

9. THANK YOU
Andi & Alex
Blind Auditions

– It was ethereal. The combination of their voices were just beautiful! To me it was the best audition of the season. And it worked in all sorts of magical gorgeousness!

8. GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS
Jordan Smith
Top 12

– The simplicity in his delivery is what sold me especially in that first half. It was the perfect song choice and it gave us a more heartfelt insight of Jordan without any sorts of pimping from the coaches.

7. LET IT GO
Jeffery Austin
Top 12

– Jeffery is building up a steam for his resume and after that fantastic play-offs performance? I never really thought he would deliver yet another solid one! Taking James Bay’s Let it go, I thought it was a homerun. From his emotional connection to his fantastic dyanmics, Jeffery is just making it easy for me to love him more.

6. BLANK SPACE
Amy Vachal
Top 11

– Sure, I always thought Amy can deliver decent performances but could either be sleepy in the end or decently bland. But her take on this Taylor Swift megahit is surely her best to date. It was interesting, memorable and technically solid.

5. BELIEVE
Jeffery Austin
Top 9

– Sublime! I love how he slowed it down as it gave a more depth especially with what the song was trying to tell. And then Jeffery sung it beautifully with a gorgeous phrasing, not so over the top runs and the ending just sealed it!

4. A CASE OF YOU
Madi Davis
Knockouts

– Not gonna lie my benchmark for this song would always that amazing performance of James Wolpert (Season 5) but Madi gave a really competent take on it too. It was sublime, lovely and strong.

3. SAMSON
Korin Bukowski/Chase Kerby
Battle Rounds

– You may be surprised, but my favorite battle for this season is the gorgeous of this Korin-Chase duel! It was all sorts of loveliness. Their voices just blended well. It was like butter that is melting beautifully and I can’t really complain. Though not techically perfect, it is just so hard to resist!

2. SOMEBODY TO LOVE
Jordan Smith
Top 9

– Glorious! I always say he is definitely a fantastic vocalist but with the pimping I feel like his magic got taken a bit away but with this performance? I was just left in awe. It was unbeleivably stunning!

1. SAY YOU LOVE ME
Jeffery Austin
Live Play-Offs

– I’m done! Best. Of. The. Season. Thank You!

X Factor UK 12: 20 Best Performances (Wrap-Up)

That fast! It’s been just three months of a rollercoaster ride and the fruition of X Factor UK season 12 happened a week ago. I was able to have the opportunity to rewatch every single live performances once again and see if my initial week to week reviews will match my traditional wrap-up post choices at the end of the season.

In a nutshell, season 12 is mainly a story of Louisa Johnson’s road to the crown. She was pimped and deservingly been the chosen 1. Reggie ‘N’ Bollie was the surprise act of actually getting much love from the viewers despite them being pegged as a joke act early on. 4th Impact, Lauren Murray and Che Chesterman were early favorites who all went far enough though obviously not enough to beat Louisa. And Simon Cowell’s less enthused since he didn’t get the Girls Category. Lol. I mean, did you see his acts?

Now here is a subjective list of which live show performances I thought define season 12.

20. JEALOUS
Louisa Johnson
Top 5

– Obviously, Louisa is sick and her vocals weren’t as flawless as it was before but even at her worst night, she still emerged as the best of the night and still delivering a powerful and gorgeously textured vocal performance. It seems like her being sick tonight worked on her favor.

19. WHAT IS LOVE
Monica Michael
Top 9

– Remember how her fantastic cover of the same song on the 6 Chair Challenge? Well she did a repeat of it and sure it wasn’t as good as that but it was still a solid effort from Monica! And knowing the last minute (literally) changes on the song choice, this was still a wonderful performance from her.

18. MEN IN BLACK
Mason Noise
Top 9

– Let’s be real, Mason isn’t in the league of Louisa, Che, Lauren nor 4th Impact in terms of vocal ability but he has all the makings of a pop star. His slick cover of Will Smith’s Men In Black is infectious with the right amount of confidence, slickness and charisma. Oh, and the rap verses were solid!

17. RETURN OF THE MACK
Kiera Weathers
Top 11

– Who knew? Kiera to me is a wrong move from Rita but with no expectations on her belt, she surprised me big time with this pop quality performance of Return of the mack. Her vocals weren’t perfect but her confidence didn’t falter at all and that breakdown was just impressive and entertaining.

16. FANCY/RICH GIRL
4th Impact
Top 5

– As the X Factor UK continually doing these mash-ups this season, one of their more successful product is this performance of 4th Impact during Top 5. It was well choreograph. The production looked cute. And the vocals of the girls were slick and solid. Their harmonies are tight and the rap verses were pretty impressive.

15. BOOM! MASH-UP
Reggie ‘N’ Bollie
Finale

– That time when I had some slight doubt on Louisa’s chances of winning because of this. The finale performance of Reggie ‘N’ Bollie of this Boom! Mash-up is not just entertaining but fun and charismatic. They may not be the best singers – and never will be – this season but they have managed to consistently do what they do best: entertain.

14. WE BELONG TOGETHER
Lauren Murray
Top 7

– It was a straight-up cover of that Mariah Carey but one thing that Lauren was able to do: Her liberties towards the end provided a new style to the song that deviates it from being karaoke. Plus, she really sounded real good.

13. SORRY
Mason Noise
Top 13

– Coming in to the live shows, I am pretty sure Mason is dead meat as he just showed attitude that didn’t really sit well with the viewers during the 6 Chair Challenge. But the redemption with the right and too obvious song choise made me think twice with Mason’s chances. He sounded pretty on the verses and there is just a certain charisma in his arrogance and confidence on stage that is appealing and compelling.

12. GOD ONLY KNOWS
Louisa Johnson
Top 13

– While I thought this didn’t really represent the “This is me..” theme and it was just an opportunity for the producers to let her have a “moment” on the show, I can’t really fault her vocals as she sounded excellent and up right beautiful.

11. THE VISION OF LOVE
Lauren Murray
Sing-Off Results Night (Top 5)

– The moment she opened her mouth and beautifully navigated the song which is one of the hardest songs of Mariah to cover, I knew 4th Impact had no chance in this sing-off. And even if they send it to deadlock, I thought Lauren easily won it and she just gave her best vocal performance of the season.

10. EVERYBODY’S FREE
Louisa Johnson
Top 9

– The grit to her voice is the texture needed for the song to be identifiable on her part but the amount of restraint she displayed is what impresses me more as it wasn’t shown so much by Louisa whose big voice is just top notch. Plus, she was well connected on the song which is pretty remarkable.

9. AIN’T NO OTHER MAN
4th Impact
Top 7

– Sure it is another up tempo and I am one of those who wished they’d shake things up. But will I complain if for a consecutive week they’ve performed something amazing like this? The girls just showed that they are ready-made pop group and their vocals were just top notch. The harmonies were tight and the individual verses were full of sass and playfullness.

8. MAKE IT RAIN
Monica Michael
Top 13

– She may look like a boombastic showgirl but I didn’t care as she nailed this Ed Sheeran track with so much gusto and vocal power. Monica sounded solid good and her phrasing was her best to date.

7. BILLIE JEAN
Louisa Johnson
Top 11

Billie Jean on paper shouldn’t work on Louisa since she was package more as a belting diva but her stage presence backed up with her ability to move yet maintain a superb vocal power and styling is something Lauren Platt wasn’t able to do last season. Louisa is the fruition of a potential big pop star that the X Factor franchise is waiting to mold especially their money maker One Direction will be on a hiatus.

6. DO IT LIKE A DUDE
Alien Uncovered
Top 13

Do it like a dude may be not the biggest and most popular Jessie J and I didn’t really think that this help Alien Uncovered gain more votes, but for a first episode of the live shows they showed the best case of what they will be doing post X Factor UK. The choreography is fantastic. The vocals were decent but it was a compelling, solid performance from a polarizing girl group.

5. ONE LAST TIME
Lauren Murray
Top 9

– Simple, elegant and beautiful! The lovely vocals won me over and the stripped down take on this Ariana Grande single is eargasmic. Lauren’s wonderful voice + the piano? Fantastic!

4. IT’S A MAN’S, MAN’S, MAN’S WORLD
Louisa Johnson
Finale

– During the top 4 showdown, I literally said that I think I heard better versions of this. But once she reprised it again, she did a top notch cover and exceeded my expectations. Her over the top vocals were delicious. Her grit and confidence is compelling. The whole performance is just powerful and stellar. I was blown away.

3. YOU CAN’T HURRY LOVE
Che Chesterman
Top 11

– Initially, I was thinking this will be another dated cover but when they changed up the arrangement and made it work on Che’s strength? I am floored. His voice is simply impressive. The gorgeous cover is stellar. The liberties he took were compelling and this just gave us a glimpse that Che can exist in the current music scene.

2. WORK IT OUT
4th Impact
Top 9

– Fantastic! This just worked all together. The vocals weren’t too much. Tha ad libs and runs were properly placed. The choreography is gorgeous. The harmonies were tight. And the hairography is fan-freakin-tastic!

1. LET IT GO
Louisa Johnson
Top 7

– Glorious! The first half is divine. The middle is amazing. The end part? Stunning! The treatment on the song was brought to another level where Louisa showned her best vocals to date and elevated it to a more powerful and diva-like cover. Great job!

X Factor Australia 7: 20 Best Performances (Wrap-Up)

It short (not really) and fast run but I must say this season of X Factor Australia is a joy to cover and watch. The talent as a whole is pretty solid and the performances were averaging from good to amazing. Plus we welcome two new judges who are bickering back and forth together with the other two judges. One handsome Luke Jacobsz who got a smooch from James Blunt and all in all a really good season of this franchise.

As I usually do on the reality singing shows when a season ends, here is a wrap-up post of the 20 Best Performances that I personally thought stole the show for this season. This is quite subjective. I hust realized how Cyrus Villanueva and the duo of Jess & Matt donimated this season no?

Here you go.

20. HEART OF GLASS
Jess & Matt
Top 12

– There is a husky quality in Jess’ voice that I like. At first I thought it was too breathy but as the performance went on it actually complimented Matt’s vocals. In the end, the two delivered a solid acoustic take on Heart of glass!

19. TOCA’S MIRACLE
Natalie Conway
Top 6

– I have never been a fan of Natalie but I did lover her take on Toca’s Miracle. It was breathtaking, solid and the vocals were top notch! Not to mention, Natalie is flying… literally!

18. BOYFRIEND
Cyrus Villanueva
Top 12

– The gritty, acoustic take on this Justin Bieber ditty is just the tip of an iceberg from Cyrus as he showed his musicality without coming across as show off and also giving us vocal talent with those falsettos, dynamics and liberties he took that just made this performance compelling and memorable.

17. DANCING IN THE DARK
Jess & Matt
Top 7

– Jess & Matt’s take on Dancing in the dark is in my taste a delicious, simple sweet revenge! The duo who were put on the bottom 2 multiple times just showed that they are viable artist post X Factor and that they have great vocals to back up their talent! Such a solid cover in my opinion.

16. CAN’T FEEL MY FACE
The Fisher Boys
Top 12

– The choreography may be so cheesy at some point but there is no denying that The Fisher Boys delivered the strongest performance of Week 1. Their vocals were solid. The remarkable stage presence is impeccable and the group was just outstanding in totality.

15. I WAS MADE FOR LOVING YOU
Jess & Matt
Top 4

I was made for loving you is a song I never imagined Jess & Matt would sing but they surprised me and it ended up to be oen of the strongest performances of the night. Jess sounded lovely and Matt was simply solid too. The couple also looked beautiful as they took a watercooler performance.

14. PHOTOGRAPH
In Stereo
Top 10

– In Stereo had so much potential coming in to the live shows but they started shaky in the early weeks as I feel like Guy hasn’t figured out the strength of his boys. Good thing he took them back on what worked on them. These three young guys were not the biggest voices of the season but the simple, acoustic take on this current Ed Sheeran hit made a difference. Their vocals were solid. The harmonies were beautiful and the individual verses were lovely.

13. WHOLE LOTTA LOVE
Big T
Top 8

– Big T to me looked like a guy who is just so into himself and the way he presents himself on self rubs me the wrong way as I feel like he is arrogant but I know that is not true but that is what I feel when it comes to his stage presence but that also is the reason why I love his performance of Whole lotta love as it matches the way Big T presented himself. His vocals were over the top beautiful and it was just a solid performance from the big guy.

12. HOLD BACK THE RIVER
Cyrus Villanueva
Top 10

– I live the whole production if this performance as it showed us a more fun side of Cyrus. Seriously, I wanna play with that “river” like stage design they did for him. But more than that, Cyrus sounded beautiful and he just made the performance looked easy and simple. His vocals were spot on. He is oozing with so much confidence.

11. DREAM ON
Louise Adams
Top 8

Dream on is difficult to pull off. But it worked perfectly witg Louise raspy voice! It sounded right with enough play on her dynamics and her phrasing sounded lovely!

10. STAY
Jess & Matt
Top 6

– The production is just commendable! X Factor really do pull off fantastic stage designs/production value. But more than that, the individual verses of this performance is just outstanding. And when they hit the chorus, the blend of their voices sounded beautiful.

9. EARNED IT
Cyrus Villanueva
Top 3

– On a finale night where he needed to reprise his audition, it was smart for him and his mentor Chris to actually do a different take than his fantastic audition. Yes I would love to listen on the acoustic take once again but this pop cover is as good as that. And more so, we saw a popstar rise and deliver a confident, full of slick movements and a quality of performance that looked more like he is a guest rather than a contestant proved that Cyrus will and can exist in the current music industry.

8. RUMOR HAS IT
Cyrus Villanueva
Top 7

– Sure, Cyrus didn’t do anything spectacular with this Adele hit but to actually perform a pitch perfect, astonishing phrasing and incredible vocal work on a song that is full of dynamics and I guess hard to pull off? He did a bang up job and I love it! It was vocally spectacular and that bridge where the band allowed us to just listen on the gorgeousness of Cyrus’ vocals? Great stuff!

7. YOU’RE THE ONE THAT I WANT
Jess & Matt
Top 5

– The arrangement at first left me a bit confused but once I got the beauty of it, I thought it was genius and fantastic! And I love how Jess & Matt’s voices blended in the tune. It was a lovely take with some semi-edge things happening on the totality of the performance.

6. HELLO
Mahalia Simpson
Top 11

– This is the Mahalia everybody rooted for during the auditions. The quiet, simple and yet emotion full performance allows Mahalia’s vocals to be front and center. And she delivered a phenomenal take on this Lionel Richie hit.

5. KNOCKIN’ ON HEAVEN’S DOOR
Cyrus Villanueva
Top 6

– Cyrus is a pro. At this point of the competition, there is no stopping this guy as he showed yet again how he is a reliable vocalist who will deliver time after time. His take om Knockin’ on heaven’s door is simply outstanding. His vocal control is perfect. His tone was lovely. His gorgeous phrasing is superb. What more can I say?

4. PEOPLE HELP THE PEOPLE
Louise Adams
Top 11

– Louise showed impeccable vocals with sublime dynamics and controlled phrasing. Her vocals sounded lovely with so much ease and passion. And hearing Louise delivered a quiet and full of restraint performance is a breath of fresh air.

3. DO YOU REMEMBER
Jess & Matt
Top 10

– Jess & Matt in the early rounds were clearly not taken seriously by the public with their numerous appearance on the bottom 2 and I don’t really understand why. This duo as the competition goes on just keeps getting better. One of their highlights is Do you remember where they started showing great vocal dynamics, impeccable chemistry and spot on harmonies. I must admit, I ain’t familiar with the song but Jess & Matt made me look for and download it.

2. JEALOUS
Cyrus Villanueva
Top 3

– During this night, hands down it came to my mind that this is the best performance of the season. But who cares, it was still the winner who delivered the top and runner-up performance of the season. His vocals were not perfect but the emotion he put in it captured how beautiful the song is and how it should be done. Lovely winning monent Cyrus!

1. WICKED GAME
Cyrus Villanueva
Top 11

– After watching the whole season once again, I go back and forth.. back and forth and in the end Cyrus’ performance of Wicked Game hands down won me over. This is the time where Cyrus became clearly the front runner of the competition. The way he navigated the song was just pure magic. His vocals were spot on. He caressed every single verse with so much ease and the sublime vocals is like butter melting, smooth and delicious. Well done.

The Voice Australia 4: 20 Best Performances (Wrap-Up)

Finally! After reviewing every single performances of The Voice Australia Season 4 again, I now have come up with a compelling subjective list for this season’s best performances.

Yes, I don’t usually rely on my every episode review because I think it is best to embrace the performances the second time around. So it is either I really like what I like or I had a second thought of those I didn’t like and think that that certain performance is actually a good one.

Now in a nutshell, season 4 of The Voice Australia is actually a lot of fun to cover. Sure the format is still crappy but I digress. Jessie J is a welcoming surprise. I am shocked on Delta’s choices. And the season had some really good pool of talents.

Now let us see who made the cut of my list. This is very subjective, okay.

Here we go.

20. BRING ME SOME WATER
Peta Evans – Taylor
Top 16

– There’s a spunk and renewed comfidence from her in this performance that screams “I can do better what I did the last couple of weeks, let me show you!” and she proved that she could do an all around performance that is fierce, vocally competent and pitch on point.

19. SEXY & I KNOW IT
Jason Howell
Blinds

– Sure the arrangement isn’t original and it was something that has been attempted from other reality singing competitions around the world and they got tons of praises. But to be fair, Jason delivered a sexy, confident and surprisingly engaging audition. His vocals were on point and he was able to work that stage effortlessly.

18. HOLD MY HAND
Lyndall Wennekes
Semi-Finals

– Lyndall’s problem in her past performances is that she usually mimic the original and delivery a passable karaoke version but something happened this week and it was in the right time. With a slowed down, intimate arrangement, Lyndall’s vocals were front and center and her performance is her best to date.

17. MARRY THE NIGHT
Naomi Price
Top 8

– Technically, Naomi is one of – if not – the best  vocalist for this season of The Voice Australia. And in the past weeks, she consistently deliver performances that were tailor made for her. I did ask for something current and she gave us that. Final product? It was a fantastic performance! Her vocals were once again spot on and this allows us to see that she can be current.

16. HOME
Jake Howden
Super Battles

– Understated, strong and lovely! For him to be eliminated in this round was a surprising move from the Madden brothers for I really thought that Jake was able to deliver a beautiful and soulful acoustic bit! Great stuff.

15. LAY ME DOWN
Stewart Winchester
Blinds

– From the moment he opened his mouth, I was at awe. Stewart’s richness in his tone and yet a melting quality to it made me feel like I’m laying down – no pun intended – on a bed of cotton! It was comforting yet vulnerable. It wasn’t perfect yet captivating.

14. LEAN ON
Ellie Drennan
Top 12

– Who knew that a Major Lazor song could work on a reality singing competition? And Ellie just nailed it with ease and confidence. With her distinctive tone and almost pitch perfect delivery, Ellie showcased that she could be well rounded and any genre could work as long as she puts her “Ellie” style to it.

13. BOOM CLAP
Grace Pitts
Super Battles

– I still can’t believe Delta lets her go because potential wise, Grace has it. Vocals, she can deliver. Star power, she exudes it naturally. And this was probably her strongest showing to date. She gained enough confidence, it was understated and beautiful. Her vocal choices were gorgeous. It was a lovely acoustic take on this Charli XCX hit.

12. RED
Scott Newnham
Blinds

– Scott has a tone that is genuinely lovely! He is charismatic, charming and a body that is easily marketable! Scott has soul too and it showed so much with his audition piece of “Red”. Then he exudes a sexiness that naturally plays along his impeccable vocals.

11. STRONG
Amber Nichols
Blinds

– Amber’s audition song worked perfectly for her. Her tone matches it well. Her pitch was on point. And the liberties she took were spot on. Not to mention, how she managed to hit those high notes effortlessly, makes me still wonder.. “Where did that come from?”

10. BELIEVE
Joe Moore
Top 12

– The build up to this performance is impeccable. Joe’s vocals were riveting and his charming, boy next door aura provided a confident and admirable bit of solid delivery!

9. TEAM
Ellie Drennan
Top 16

– The song choice was tailor-made for Ellie. Have you heard her a capella bit take on Lorde’s “Royals” during the Blinds? So this was a walk in the park but somehow Ellie managed to still keep it interesting, fresh and solid! Her vocal choices were strong. Her vocals were lovely!

8. DON’T CRY FOR ME ARGENTINA
Naomi Price
Top 16

– When I first found out the song choice, I cringe rightfully as I feel like it added 10 more years to her. But then something happened and I was captivated! It was a beautiful delivery from Naomi! And even if the build up to its climax took quite too long, I didn’t care. Her delivery of the song was just lovely and gorgeous. It didn’t sound dated at all which is unusual since she gave a straight on like the original arrangement! I think it was the vocals and the liberties she took.

7. LET IT GO
Liam Maihi
Top 16

– His rich yet silky tone provided a solid wrap up to this James Bay tune. That has been Liam’s strongest point. And as the performance progress, it gets even better and better amd made me think that this is the kind of music Liam should do. It wasn’t boring or trying hard. It was emotionally invested and beautifully delivered.

6. LAST REQUEST
Joe Moore
Semi-Finals

– This was lovely! Joe consistently deliver a radio ready, vocally strong and compelling performances. He never really did anything that is throwaway. His tone was front and center and his delivery is simply lovely.

5. SHAKE IT OFF
Nathan Hawes
Top 16

– Sure, the arrangement is polarizing and while it took me awhile before I could embrace and recognize the song, I thought it was still a strong, fresh and brave performance from Nathan. It was an absolute dynamic performance even without those high, belting notes, it still is mesmerizing! The middle parts is phenomenal and the end is the cherry on top.

4. UNAWARE
Ethan Conway
Blinds

– Could’ve been my favorite blind audition this season because it was almost a perfect and impeccable performance. His transitions were precise. The falsettos were clean and fantastic. It was an absolute charismatic audition from Ethan.

3. THE BLOWER’S DAUGHTER
Joe Moore
Top 16

– There’s a vulnerability in this performance that created dynamics and depth from Joe that I never really thought he could do! His vocals weren’t perfect but it was sensational! Great job.

2. I KISSED A GIRL
Ellie Drennan
Semi-Finals

– Ellie took a risk and it paid off quite well. Her tone provided a fantastic and compelling take on the song. It was a cool take too which made it sound fresh, current and a solid rendition of this Katy Perry hit.

1. I SEE FIRE
Joe Moore
Blinds

– From the moment he opened his mouth to the very last end note, Joe showed how radio ready he is and how his voice is what sells nowadays. Not to mention, his vocals were really impeccable and this was an absolute fantastic blind audition. I knew from her on, he would do great in the competition.

The Voice Kids Philippines 2: 15 Best Performances (Wrap-Up)

I was contemplating prior to this if I will be covering the second season of The Voice Kids Philippines and I think season 1 screwed it up real bad. Lol. So for Season 2, I am just doing a wrap-up post of the 15 BEST PERFORMANCES of the season.

In a nutshell, season 2 still has that crappy format, 1 Lea Salonga, 3 annoying hosts, contestants whose names are either hard to pronounce or hard to spell and a reality singing competition milking way too much on the backstory of the contestants. Nonetheless, I was still able to come up the most compelling list that I could get.

Let me just remind you that this is completely subjective so you may and may not agree with me.

Here are the 15 BEST PERFORMANCES of TVK-Ph Season 2.

[15] ISANG MUNDO, ISANG AWIT
Esang de Torres
Sing-Offs

– Fun, youthful and solid vocals from Esang. There is clarity in her tone that is admirable. Pretty strong!

[14] AMAZING
Owen Gonzaga
Blinds

– There is a texture in his tone that is interesting. Owen’s vocals were surprisingly solid and I didn’t expect it at all. Strong audition.

[13] NEXT IN LINE
Sassa Dagdag
Finals

– While that bridge part destroyed almost the perfect execution of this song, Next in line is the perfect commencement of Sassa’s growth in the competition. Cheesy but solid!

[12] WHEN I WAS YOUR MAN
Altair Aguelo
Sing-Offs

– Altair sings the song mostly on key. His high register was good, the low notes were beautiful. He knows his material and he worked on this song like he’s mastered this for a long time.

[11] EMOTIONS
Elha Nympha
Finals

– Minus the failed whistle and runs, Elha actually performed a solid delivery of this Mariah Carey hit. It was a different side of her, a more up tempo and she gave a really strong and fun side of her. I like this. Simple and compelling.

[10] WRECKING BALL
Amira Medina
Blinds

– Amira has a nice tone and a really gorgeous voice. Her take on this Miley Cyrus hit is solid and strong. Her vocal choices were on fleek and there is something interesting with her tone.

[9] I’LL BE THERE
Francis Lim
Blinds

– There is clarity in Francis’ delivery that I like. He managed to take the song with so much ease and confidence. His runs were delicate and spot on. The vocals may not be perfect but it still sounded pretty compelling.

[8] PROBLEM
Zephanie Dimaranan
Sing-Offs

– Zephanie showed a different side of her and even if the vocals were not as solid as when she’s doing ballads, this was still for me a strong performance. She showed attitude, ability and a sass that is very confident. It was a different part that gave us a youthful vibe from her.

[7] GIVE ME LOVE
Andrew Patuasic
Blinds

– Let me get it straight: The vocals were not perfect and his tone is a good resemblance of that of Bamboo. But here is why I think this audition was strong, Andrew made it sound easy and fresh and he didn’t even do anything. It must be the tone in his voice and the vocal choices he did to make it more textured. Great stuff!

[6] NATUTULOG BA ANG DIYOS
Elha Nympha
Sing-Offs

– Somehow, somewhere, I was captivated with this performance. I was never a fan of Elha but in this song choice, everything just worked together. Her vocals were strong. She didn’t do those unnecessary runs and whistles, her vocals were controlled and she connected with the song so well.

[5] STAY WITH ME
Sim Teves
Blinds

– The low registers were my favorite. Sim may not know the potential of her voice but those low notes were beautiful and lovely. Then the liberties she took created a different texture in contrast to the original. This is solid and great for an audition piece and she’s obviously nervous which is crazy!

[4] YOUR LOVE
Kate Campo, Paul Abellana & Elha Nympha
Battles

– The harmonies sounded really tight. The individual verses were solid as well. Paul was impeccable. Lovely tone, great command with the song. This is the strongest battle of the season and probably the best one so far in this series franchise.

[3] SKYFALL
Luke Alford
Sing-Offs

– Underrated and well deserved. I still can’t believe how coach Lea lets go of him. The song choice is difficult but somehow Luke make it sound easy and lovely. The tone in his voice also worked with the song and unexpectedly at the end of his performance, I was sold.

[2] FLASHLIGHT
Zephanie Dimaranan
Semi-Finals

– Zephanie knows her verses and the way she masterfully sing around the lines of her material is very delicate and soft like butter melting. Her vocals is clear and it sooths you with so much subtlety and quiet power.

[1] IF I WERE A BOY
Sassa Dagdag
Semi-Finals

– All of a sudden, Sassa exploded on the The Voice stage this evening with fangs and claws all riled up. This girl’s growth is impeccable. That vocal delivery in the first verse is brilliant and when she transitioned to the main verse to the chorus, it was something I didn’t expect she could deliver. It wasn’t the perfect vocal, but it was a compelling one.

10 Best Performances of YFSF – Philippines (Wrap-Up)

13 weeks of competition. 8 Contestants. 100 icons. 1 annoying Billy Crawford. 1 annoying Edgar Allan Guzman. 3 Cheerleaders Judges. And Maxene Magalona is there?

Upon the announcement of the show, I was really excited. This show brings out the very best of the contestants in front and behind the camera. I had high hopes. There are really talented make-up artists, stylists and even artists that can live up to the theme of the show. While there are moments that left me wondering why am I still watching the show, there are also still performances that shine brightly among an almost underwhelming pack.

If we consider the body of work for the whole season, Nyoy Volante won the competition hands down. If we only consider the performance during the live finale last Saturday? Melai Cantiveros easily won it!

Now with no further adieu, here are the 10 STANDOUTS of YFSF Season 1.

[10] MELAI CANTIVEROS as RIHANNA
– There’s a certain joy in her delivery that transcends naturally. From her movements to the conscious efforts of her to nail the Rihanna impersonation, Melai was able to not just entertain the audience but manage to keep a close to almost perfect transformation. One problem? The singing.

[9] KARLA ESTRADA as ANN WILSON
– It’s like Ann Wilson was match made for her. Karla was able to channel her singing ability in a way that keeps the spirit of Ann Wilson. Yes, it wasn’t perfect but this is definitely Karla’s best performance to date.

[8] JOLINA MAGDANGAL as MANNY PACQUIAO
– Did she nail the impersonation? No. But the efforts from Manny’s nuances to the sound of his voice, Jolina was able to channel that in most parts. One thing that made this whole transformation worked? Jolina took advantage all those familiar “Manny Pacquiao” antics that made people say, “Yup, she did it.”

[7] MELAI CANTIVEROS as MILEY CYRUS
-From the looks to the drama, Melai was almost spot on. Again, the struggle for her lies on the singing because well, she can’t really sing. But the effort was there and she gave it more. It was passionate, it looks like she really wanted to nail this transformation and the entertainment value was just there.

[6] JAY R as ENRIQUE IGLESIAS
-HOLY COW! The make-up artists just nailed this one. It was almost close to getting it. Of course, Jay R once again managed to deliver a believable performance and that voice, how did he do that? He was able to at least come close to what Enrique sounds like.

[5] TUTTI CARINGAL as STEVEN TYLER
-Commendable for Tutti to give way for another artist to win this week but in my book, he won this week, no question. The looks were spot on. The vocals were there. He was able to channel Steven Tyler as if he was doing this his whole life.

[4] NYOY VOLANTE as LUCIANO PAVAROTTI
– Nyoy has this dedication that happened unnoticed not until week after week after week he gained remarks. His take on Luciano Pavarotti was decent to great. It sounds like he studied him well. The movements, the vocals, even the little things he does with his hand made this performance compelling.

[3] MELAI CANTIVEROS as ELIZABETH RAMSEY
– It’s like they were twins! Seriously, Melai just nailed and gave the best performance of her life in this competition. The nuances of Elizabeth were well studied. The actions, the overthetop awkward stage movements were effrotlessly done. Again, Melai’s struggle lies on the fact that she can’t sing but then somehow, this performance felt like it was written for her. It is her record. Haha.

[2] JAY R as PEPE SMITH
– Wow. Just wow. For a first week performance, Jay R came out guns blazing! This was strong, seriously spot on and solid.

[1] NYOY VOLANTE as SYLVIA LA TORRE
– ROBBED! This is a week where I don’t know why he didn’t win. I mean, from the mere fact thag he’s doing a woman performance in his falsetto the entire time and nailing every bit of nuances of Sylvia La Torre? The judges turned Cheerleaders just didn’t really make sense during this week. Yes, it was an old fashion performance but it was probably go down as the most solid and strongest transformation of the first season.

The Voice US 8: 20 Best Performances (Wrap-Up)

A total of 32 performances this season that caught my attention. I was giddying enough to appreciate those performances so please bear with me when I say that it was really tough to narrow the list down to the 20 Best Performances and 5 Honorable Mentions.

As a tradition, I usually just choose 20 but with a pool of talent as good as this season, I decided to include honorable mentions so that those who were so close will be rewarded. Haha.

The list is completely bias and subjective. Of course it is by personal taste, so you might not see your favorites or maybe some performances you think were ranked too low or too high will result to our disagreement. But then the way to resolve it is to comment away so I would know your personal list.

Now here is my list for this season.

20. PLEASE
Sawyer Fredericks
Finale

– Sawyer got lucky that this extra song and self-penned of Ray Lamontagne was given to him by the man himself. It was perfectly suited for him and out of the 4 finalists’ original music, his was probably the best and could really chart well in the folk genre. Not to mention, Sawyer’s vocals here were spot on and he was able to convey that connection that is usually cold in his other performances. This performance also is the final nail in sealing his status as the eventual winner of The Voice Season 8. Watch it here.

19. CHICKEN FRIED
Corey Kent White
Blind Auditions

– Corey looked and sound generic on paper but somehow when he started singing this tune, it went all out of the window. Corey sounds very current – country current – that everybody would enjoy in the radio today. His vocals sounded gorgeous. And Corey is very marketable with his looks and boy next door charm. Watch it here.

18. EARNED IT
Rob Taylor
Live PlayOffs

– Rob’s runs were usually overwrought in his early performances but here, it was more controlled. There are dynamics in his performances that made this work. His vocals sounded pretty good: His phrasing – a little muddled – but better. Plus, the way he navigated the verses of his performance is really compelling. Good job! Watch it here.

17. IT’S A MAN’S MAN’S MAN’S WORLD
Koryn Hawthorne
Finale

– Koryn gave out the best performance of the night during the finale. It’s just unfortunate she end up in the last place and she performed first. The vocals here were really strong and solid. Her phrasing is gorgeous and this is her best enunciated verses she ever had. Watch it here.

16. STAY
India Carney & Clinton Winston
Battle Rounds

– It was a stellar battle. What’s best thing about this battle is that it never really felt like a battle. Both India and Clinton’s vocals were gorgeous. The harmonies were tight and beautiful. The vocal choices were spot on. There are really fun battles during this season but this one completely blew them out of the water. Watch it here.

15. THE THRILL IS GONE
Mia Z
Blind Auditions

– Her runs reminds me of Mariah Carey and Ariana Grande combined. It was delicious, tasty and gorgeously sound. Her phrasing sounded lovely and her vocals were spot on. Mia had this appeal that draws you in and the blues on her delivery gave out so much soul and texture. This is really good. Watch it here.

14. DIRTY DIANA
Kimberly Nichole
Top 6

– The power vocals were outstanding. Kimberly commanded the stage like no other and her vocals were not just big and bizarre, but they were crazy good. That back bend was an art! This performance was intese – in a good way – that I was wanting for more after. Watch it here.

13. GRAVITY
India Carney
Top 5

– Who knew India can pull something as delicate as this? It was a right mixture of restraint and power. Her vocal choices were spot on. Her runs were not too much and she was able to control her vibratto which was an issue from her since the beginning of the competition. Also, this is her most connected on a song to date. Watch it here.

12. ARMS OF A WOMAN
Joshua Davis
Knockouts

– Joshua is a fantastic story teller. The way he navigated the verses of this song is soothing with so much emotion and powerful attachment that made the whole performance compelling, emotional and beautifully sang. Watch it here.

11. SAY MY NAME
Travis Ewing
Blind Auditions

– The risk that he took with the song choice earned him enough extra points. To tackle a woman song and not just by a solo artist but by an R&B group is risky but Travis made it work. His rendition of this Destiny’s Child hit is gorgeous. It was sexy, sultry but masculine enough. His vocals were gorgeous and his phrasing sounded very lovely. Watch it here.

10. MAKE YOU FEEL MY LOVE
Corey Kent White
Live PlayOffs

– Corey took a song and interpret it beautifully. His tone is dominating the track but not in a bad way. He was able to convey the right emotions, phrased the verses gorgeously and deliver an honest, lovely and sincere version of this song. Probably his best to date. Watch it here.

9. HOLD ON, I’M COMING
Mia Z
Knockouts

– Mia has this appeal that is very her. Her tone is simply gorgeous and pleasantly quirky. That quirk is not polarizing but you know that it is her. The song actually allowed Mia to navigate the verses beautifully. Her vocal choices were fantastic and the liberty he took with the song is fantastic! Watch it here.

8. I AM A MAN OF A CONSTANT SORROW
Sawyer Fredericks
Blind Auditions

– Different but cool. Unpretentious and flattering. His tone made him sound like no other. His audition was gorgeous. It was simple, relevant and annoyingly beautiful. At first, I really felt iffy with his tone but as the performance went on, it was actually a very good audition. Watch it here.

7. GIRL CRUSH
Meghan Linsey
Top 12

– The girl who screams her lungs out! The girl has no chill but somehow during this week, she was able to control her hoarse vocal powers and deliver a stunning interpretation of Littel Big Town’s current hit. There is a control in here. She connected well with the track. Her vocals were pleasantly lovely. Really good job! Watch it here.

6. SKINNY LOVE
Brooke Adee
Blind Auditions

– This is my faborite audition this season. Brooke’s voice just won me over from the moment she opened her mouth to the times she navigated the verses of this song. It was solid, vocally spot on and overall fantatsic! Watch it here.

5. EARTH SONG
India Carney
Top 5

– This is the week where India brought and she managed to go out of the competition with flying colors. I mean how can people not vote for her two marvelous performance that night is unbelievable. Her best work? The “Earth Song”. It was just vocally spot on! Her phrasing sounded fantastic. Her choices were moving. The intensity and power she put in the song is something that we haven’t really saw from her. It was just right there – powerful but not screamy, intense but not too much and it was just a great performance overall. Watch it here.

4. AIN’T NO SUNSHINE
Mia Z
Live PlayOffs

– Mia’s bluesy take on the song gave a huge contrast from what we usually hear when artists’ do an interpretation of this. Her vocals sounded really gorgeous. The liberties she took were spot on and her phrasing is simply beautiful. Watch it here.

3. MAKE IT RAIN
Koryn Hawthorne
Top 10

– This is Koryn’s breakout moment. It was just a gorgeous vocal performance! It was full of raw power and solid vocals. Great stuff! Watch it here.

2. HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN
Kimberly Nichole
Top 12

– Kimberly is a beast! Her take with this song is simply outstanding. It was vocally great. It was beautifully delivered. Kimberly is just an amazing performer! Watch it here.

1. WHAT’S UP
Kimberly Nichole
Live PlayOffs

– HOLY COW, she’s a vocal beast! Amazing performance. Enough said. Watch it here.
